The Arizonan Project has been an exciting journey for all of us here at RYT. Since December of 2011, we have completed play development residencies across the Phoenix Metro Valley– at Homes Boys and Girls Club, Stewart Boys and Girls Club, Thornwood Boys and Girls Club, Colangelo Boys and Girls Club, Flight 33, and New City Barrio Nuevo. In each of our 4-6 week residencies, we asked youth what Arizona means to them in 2012, the year of Arizona’s 100th birthday. Youth have shared stories with us about what it means to grow up here, what living here has meant for them, and what they hope for Arizona in the future. We’ve created and performed Arizonan Project mini-plays and radio plays at each site as culminating experiences of each residency. All of these stories, experiences, improvisations, games, poems, and ideas are now being wrapped up into a play written by José Zárate.
This week, we begin auditions for the Arizonan Project Play (title forthcoming). We’re returning to each of our residency sites to audition youth AND holding open auditions at our home, the Phoenix Center for the Arts. Get involved! We’d love to have you!
