Play development residencies have begun for the Arizonan project! From now through February of 2012, RYT artists will be in residence at seven sites in partnership with community organizations serving youth all over the Phoenix Metro area. Each of the seven sites will participate in a 4-6 week residency where youth participants and RYT artists will share stories, acting exercises, games, and improvisations all centered on what it means to live in Arizona. Each residency will culminate with an on-site performance of work created throughout the 4-6 weeks.
…SO HOW DO WE TURN THIS INTO A PLAY?
Playwright José Zárate and our team of Resident Artists are working with youth through our residencies to discover great questions, powerful stories, and emergent themes that will become the content of our full-length Arizonan Project play, which will be produced in April of 2012. Youth will audition for the play in February of 2012, and participate in six weeks of devising and rehearsal, ending in a weekend of performance at RYT’s home, the Phoenix Center for the Arts.
We will be blogging throughout the project–stay tuned and get excited!
