Programs in Schools

Rising Youth Theatre Works with Schools to Create Arts Programs that Help Students Thrive

All of Rising Youth Theatre’s work is built in community partnerships. These are not surface level interactions - we do not see ourselves as “serving” our community, but as working in active relationships with the people, schools, and organizations around us. When we work with your school or org, we are honored to get to share space and work together towards a shared goal. Whether you are a school, a youth-serving organization, or a corporate entity looking to build community, we can create a program for you! This page has information about our programming for schools - if you are looking for programs for other types of organizations please see our Rising Youth in Communities page here.

Rising Youth Theatre’s programs in schools use our unique creative process to engage young people in their academic work and school community. Programs can be after school or during the school day, and are customized to the needs of each school group.

We’re a community based organization so we create things in partnership with the people and organizations we work with! Shared here is a menu of examples of things we’ve done in the past - however we will always work with our partner to create something that speaks directly to your community and the people in it.

HIGH SCHOOL

Our Programs

At the high school level (typically grades 9-12), Rising Youth Theatre uses our playmaking process to engage teens in topics they care about. Our model for youth and adult collaboration creates a space where young people feel both supported and challenged.

Possible Content

Previous offerings have included:

  • Original Plays: Students create and perform an original play based on topics that are important to them and their community
  • Academic Growth: Students use theatre to enhance their experience with academic content, such as activating The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
  • Multimedia: Students develop digital content, such as podcasts or short films, or written content such as zines or literary magazines
  • Creative Interventions is a unique professional development program for high school students and educators
  • Keysmash is a play and workshop series about mental health that we can bring to high schools and colleges throughout Arizona.

These programs can take place after school  or during the school day. Your teaching artist will work directly with admin, teachers & students to build a schedule and program that works for your school community.
